Consistency
How Success Happens

This is the first part of a series on How Success Happens.
“Success isn't always about greatness. It's about consistency. Consistent hard work leads to success. Greatness will come.”
-Dwayne Johnson.
If you want to succeed, you have to be consistent.
One of the definitions for Consistency in the Oxford Dictionary is "the achievement of a level of performance that does not vary greatly in quality over time."
I would like to add that not any level of quality of performance will do; you can't be consistently mediocre and expect to succeed.
So, set a high level of performance quality for yourself and keep delivering at or above that level, time after time.
“Consistency of performance is essential. You don't have to be exceptional every week, but as a minimum, you need to be at a level that even on a bad day you get points on the board.”
-Sean Dyche.
Assuming you have leveled up to deliver high-quality performance, here's one tip to build the kind of consistency that leads to success:
If you are a consistently motivated person, you are exceptional. Also if you are consistently disciplined. While these are virtuous traits we should all aspire to practice, no matter our level of motivation or discipline, we can each build consistency by building a system around our behavior.
Rather than hope you will consistently deliver high-level performance, structure it by building a system to prompt you to:
1. Start (such as paying subscriptions, scheduling notifications, or regularly connecting with a service provider)
and
2. Sustain (such as restricting available options, only following a prescribed pathway that makes it inconvenient to deviate).
As an online Executive Coach and Management Consultant that has built. a business around my personal brand, I have to be consistent with my online visibility and value add if I am to build credibility, relatability, and trust with my ideal client. Whatever you want to succeed at, you can do the same.
What do you want to succeed at?
What do you need to be consistent in to be able to get there?
Build a system to help you start and sustain consistent high-level performance and keep at it until it starts to pay off.

“If you want to be successful, you need consistency and if you don't have it, you've got no chance.”
-Paul Merson.
